A Wishful Start to 2023! - Metavoidal Update #4
Phew, what a year it’s been for us! And it’s only been a month…
We’ve finally reached the end of January! It’s felt like 3-for-1 special with all the things going on in the back, but somehow we’ve made it through relatively unscathed. We’ve only decided on basically redesigning a core system due to player feedback (more on that later), but in indie game dev terms that’s pretty mild.
A lot of stuff has happened since our last newsletter, but I’ll keep it quick and give you the bullets. In January we:
Reached the 380 mark on Metavoidal’s Steam Wishlists, and
Had a month-long playtest session on G.Round
A short list, but with a lot going on underneath. So let’s get into it!
On Steam Wishlists
We’ve reached over 300 wishlists on Steam in just a month and a half of having our store page! Words can’t describe how incredibly excited (and nervous) this makes us, since Metavoidal is our first ever experience in full-on game development.
While there’s still what feels like a Lord of the Rings level of road ahead of us before we glimpse the launch date, it’s been incredibly motivating to have a community be there ready to play our little indie game about a drummer.
If you haven’t checked out our Steam page yet, here’s where you can find it!
On G.Round Playtesting
When you make something that is meant to be used by others, you have to test if it works. Shocking development, I know!
But when you’re developing something like, say, a video game, that amount of testing goes up ten fold at the very least. You never know where a bug might crawl out from, so you have to inspect it from every angle.
And that’s exactly what G.Round has given us; access to their global network of playtesters, content creators, and indie game fans for a whole month to help us sniff out every bug conceivable.
The feedback they have given us has been invaluable and more in-depth than we could have ever hoped for. And it’s made us look at some of the core fundamentals of Metavoidal to see how we can improve the player’s experience, indefinitely.
There’s a lot to unpack, but we’ve also seen how our vision for MV is one people are really vibing with. They can see where we’re going, and that if we manage to get there it’s going to be (as the kids say) a banger.
If you’re interested in seeing what the nearly 200 reviews have to say about our game, you can check it out here. Or if you’d like to watch the game in-action, the community has made some pretty great content, too!
That’s it! For now…
Hopefully our next newsletter will have more exciting tidbits in it regarding the new things we’ve been working on. One of them may or may not be a new boss. But we just wanted to pop this little update out, and to tell you that we appreciate your support! It really means a lot to count you as a part of the community.
As always, if you feel like getting in-touch with us, or like hanging out with the team in general, you can find all our links in one place (@yellowlabgames).
Until next time! And have a lekker one! :D
